EIZO announced that it has received approval for its 19 and 25.5-inch maritime monitors for electronic chafdu2603wt_fds1904t_prrt display information systems (ECDIS) from DNV GL. The approved monitors are DuraVision FDS1904, FDS1904T, FDU2603W, and FDU2603WT.

DNV GL (Norway) is the world’s largest international classification society which provides classification and technical advisory to the maritime industry. DNV GL sets standards for ships and offshore structures to ensure safety and high performance of installed equipment, including ECDIS.

ECDIS is a digital geographic information system which complies with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and can be used as an alternative to paper nautical charts. The DuraVision FDS1904, FDS1904T, FDU2603W, and FDU2603WT comply with international standards IEC60945, IEC61174, and IEC62288 to ensure resistance to high temperatures and vibration and meet colour and screen characteristic standards for displaying electronic charts. ECDIS will become mandatory for new and existing ships engaged on international voyages by 2018.

The DuraVision FDS1904 and FDU2603W are 19 and 25.5-inch marine monitors with 1280 x 1024 and 1920 x 1200 resolution respectively. DuraVision FDS1904T and FDU2603WT are the touch panel variations with projected capacitive touch technology. With ECDIS compliance, EIZO continues to provide a high degree of customer assurance to maritime industry professionals.

EIZO Limitedradiforcerx660_press_s today announced the release of the RadiForce RX660, a 30-inch 6 megapixel monitor ideal for multi-modality applications. It is the successor model to the RadiForce RX650 and features new functionality for improving reading room efficiency.

The RadiForce RX660 is equipped with EIZO’s original space and time saving function called Work-and-Flow which is included with the bundled RadiCS LE software. Work-and-Flow allows radiologists to easily show or hide a PinP (Picture in Picture) window allowing them to view two separate video inputs within a single monitor. This is perfect for eliminating a monitor that is viewed infrequently – such as examination lists – and is easily operated by moving the cursor to the corner of the monitor. Additionally with Work-and-Flow, USB switching is done within the monitor so users can work on multiple PCs using only one mouse and keyboard. Users simply move the cursor across the screens to quickly start working on another PC. With these two functions, Work-and-Flow provides quick and easy information referencing and a barrier-free workstyle.

Compared to its predecessor, the RadiForce RX660 hosts a slimmer, more compact housing for a more efficient workspace. The monitor’s width and depth have been reduced by 9.5 mm and 56.5 mm respectively. In addition, the size of the power supply was greatly reduced and now comes built into the monitor. This results in a monitor that takes up 23% less space, giving radiologists more room for other tasks. It is also 6 kg lighter than the previous model for ease of installation.

The monitor is equipped with DisplayPort 1.2 input and output terminals which means that 6 megapixel resolution can be achieved using a single cable. The output terminal can then be used to attach additional monitors in a daisy chain sequence removing the hassle of excess cables.

The 6 megapixel screen provides ample space for displaying numerous applications at once, making it an effective replacement for a dual 3 megapixel monitor setup. Healthcare professionals can conveniently view images side-by-side without the obtrusive bezels typically found in a multi-monitor environment.

The RadiForce RX660 comes equipped with EIZO’s unique Sharpness Recovery technology which restores sharpness that is typically lost due to the high brightness requirements of medical monitors. This ensures the screen displays images with a level of clarity that is true to the source data.

Availability

The RadiForce RX660 will begin shipping in 2017.

framestoreEIZO ColorEdge has released the third of its ‘Living, breathing colour’ film series featuring Framestore, the Oscar winning visual effects studio who have worked on films such as The Legend of Tarzan, Gravity and The Avengers. The film outlines how Framestore created the animal world in The Legend of Tarzan, rejecting motion capture in favour of a more subtle realism through stop frame, taking the bold decision to hand animate the apes.  Watch here https://vimeo.com/188636260

“They looked into using motion capture and using human performers to do the ape action but in the end they felt it just looked like a man imitating an ape and what they wanted was something more authentic” Kevin Spruce, Animation Supervisor.

Mangani, the fictitious apes in the original Edgar Rice Burroughs novel are recreated through observation of real life gorillas and chimpanzees replicating the meticulous detail and behaviour as closely as possible in the animation. “We study live action footage of apes in the wild and at zoos to the 8th degree and last detail until we feel like we know everything about that creature”.

As ColorEdge users, Framestore highlight how world class work is created on EIZO’s industry leading monitors for colour accuracy. EIZO’s ColorEdge series includes a range of colour critical monitors designed and developed specifically for professionals working in the design and creative industries. Used by many of the world’s leading photographers, retouchers, post-production houses, FX artists and design professionals, ColorEdge is renowned for its colour accuracy, visual consistency and performance reliability.

“Our monitors are built to exacting standards in the EIZO R&D Centre in Japan and are able to display 99% of the Adobe RGB colour space (over a billion colours). As well as boasting a range of innovative and patented features, ColorEdge monitors ensure accurate calibration and continuous, unrivalled performance. We’re proud that our monitors work behind the scenes to create award winning work around the world, what Framestore create is testament to this” Colin Woodley, Managing Director of EIZO UK.

Part of a wider repositioning for EIZO ColorEdge, led by Sheffield studio Peter & Paul the new marketing campaign also sees the creation of the EIZO Award, a design competition aimed to engage young creatives by offering winning students placements in some of the worlds leading creative institutions including: Heatherwick Studio, Rankin, Somesuch and Studio Dumbar.

The EIZO Award is a competition open to all UK University students studying within four creative disciplines; Photography, Film and Moving Image, Graphic Design and Product Design. Each subject brief differs in its challenge but all surround the concept of “Living, breathing colour”.

“With submissions running between September 2016 – January 2017 our aim is to engage with young, talented creatives developing briefs that encourage them to be brave, break convention, innovate and most of all have fun. In doing so they could win the opportunity to work alongside some of the biggest names in the creative industries.”  Paul Reardon, Brand Director of Peter & Paul.

lx490w_pressimage_s

EIZO Limited today announced a new 49-inch wall mount monitor for operating rooms (OR). The CuratOR LX490W is a Full HD (1920 x 1080), widescreen monitor ideally suited for viewing medical images such as X-ray, CR, MRI, or endoscopy in the OR.

The LX490W is the successor model to the LX470W. Compared to its predecessor, the LX490W’s screen size has been increased from 47 to 49 inches to improve the overview of images across the larger viewing area.

The monitor’s side bezels have been reduced by 56% to a mere 13.3 mm. Although the screen size has increased by two inches, EIZO has maintained the same basic physical dimensions to ensure consistency with the installation footprint of the previous model. With its optimised construction, the monitor is also 22% lighter than its predecessor, making handling and installation in the OR more convenient. The fanless, waterproof design and easy-to-clean protective front screen makes the monitor well suited to the frequent cleaning requirements of OR environments.
The LX490W has a high brightness LED backlight that can be set to luminance levels up to 700 cd/m2. The backlight is maintained at its calibrated luminance using the integrated stability system to ensure the image remains consistent with medical imaging standards over time. With a contrast ratio of 1300:1 and 178° wide viewing angles, healthcare professionals can rely on the screen’s clarity from any perspective.

The LX490W retains all of the great features of the LX470W, such as the wide range of input and output signals for interfacing with the most common imaging systems. With its five factory-calibrated gamma modes, the LX490W can be quickly tailored to meet different requirements for brightness and the display of different image types such as DICOM-based X-rays or endoscopic sources with a gamma of 2.2. In addition to the predefined 12-bit look-up tables (LUT), the LX490W offers a user-definable LUT for easy, onsite adaptation to specialized viewing needs. The monitor can also be configured to view multiple source images simultaneously using picture-in-picture (PiP), picture-and-picture (PaP) or picture-over-picture (PoP) functionality.

EIZO Limited today announced the release of the RadiForce GX550, a 21.3-inch 5 megapixel monitor for viewing detailed digital breast tomosynthesis and radiforcegx550_press_en_smammography images. It is the successor model to the RadiForce GX540 and features superior imaging capability and ease-of-use.
A medical monitor needs to be capable of high brightness in order to meet performance standards. However, in order to achieve high brightness in an LCD panel, the pixel aperture ratio has to be increased. This causes a typically unavoidable decline in sharpness. The RadiForce GX550 features EIZO’s unique Sharpness Recovery technology, with which the decrease in sharpness (MTF) is restored. This allows healthcare professionals to display an image safely on the monitor that is true to the original source data, even at high brightness levels.

The monitor’s new design features thinner, black front bezels, making it easier to focus on images in dark reading rooms, while the original white stripe design around the sides of the monitor presents a fresh, clean aesthetic to promote a comfortable, user-friendly environment. For keeping workspace efficient, the monitor’s width, height, and depth were reduced by 21 mm, 36 mm, and 45.5 mm respectively – a 28% difference compared to its predecessor. The width of the side bezels were reduced by approximately half to 13.5 mm – the thinnest in the industry for 5 megapixel monitors. This allows users to comfortably view two monitors side by side to compare images.

radiforcegx550_breast_tomosynthesis_image_sEIZO has received FDA 510(k) clearance for digital breast tomosynthesis and digital mammography from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the RadiForce GX550. Digital breast tomosynthesis is a method of breast screening that allows the radiologist to view detailed 3-dimensional images of the breast assembled from multiple X-ray pictures. When used in combination with digital mammography, tomosynthesis provides radiologists with multiple screening techniques that can be utilised together for increased diagnostic precision in breast cancer detection.
